EURADOS/IAEA
Regional Training Course on Advanced Methods for Internal Dose Assessment
Application of IDEAS Guidelines and dissemination of CONRAD internal dosimetry results
CONTENT
The course is intended to provide advanced information and training in internal dosimetry addressing the two major tasks:
- Present, explain and provide occasion of training in internal dosimetry, using the IDEAS Guidelines.
- Provide updated information on internal dose assessment by means of the achievements of the CONRAD Work Package 5
The internal structure of the course will cover:
- Frontal lectures with presentation of the IDEAS Guidelines: use of flowcharts and explanations of examples performed by lecturers.
- Examples taken from the internal dosimetry experience in which students will perform the evaluations using flow charts and pre-organized spread-sheets.
- Demonstrations of commercially available software devoted to internal dose assessment by developers or expert user.
- Seminars from the CONRAD Work Package 5 (Internal dosimetry) task coordinators on:
- ICRP and NCRP new biokinetic models.
- Application of Voxel phantoms and Monte Carlo methods to in-vivo monitoring
- Monitoring and dose assessment in the event of an emergency.
- Presentation and use of the IDEAS internal contamination databases.
- Evaluation by participants of some cases studies. This will be the opportunity for the participants to train themselves by their own or in small groups.
- Deliver of results after the individual work and overall discussion on case assessments results.
TARGET GROUP AND PRE-REQUISITES
The training course is targeted to professionals already involved in internal dose assessment (e.g. from internal dosimetry services), familiar with terminology, concepts, models and computational tools of internal dosimetry of radioactive materials and with the designing of internal monitoring program. The skill in use of usual spread-sheets programs for calculation is a fundamental pre-requisite. The use of personal laptop during examples and exercises is mandatory.
EVALUATION
Course participants are expected to attend all teaching sessions and to actively participate in the exercises and discussions. At the end of the course the participants will have to sustain an evaluation test.
PLACES AVAILABLE
For the Training Course a total of 40 places will be available. Being jointly organized with the IAEA, 20 (twenty) participants will be selected by IAEA among professionals coming from European Countries involved in the Technical Cooperation Project RER/9/089.
