EU2022 ceske predsednictvi logoThe conference Nuclear in the Production of Hydrogen for the Clean Energy Transition aims to present the current situation in this field in Europe and the USA. It is organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague (FNSPE) and the Czech Hydrogen Technology Platform as part of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union on Tuesday October 11, 2022 at 15:00.

The conference will take place at FNSPE (lecture room B103) and registration is still possible on the conference website. The whole programe will be in English. Speakers will include Michel Berthélemy from the OECD's Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), Carlos Leipner, Director of the Clean Air Task Force's Global Nuclear Energy Strategy, Shannon M. Bragg-Sitton from the Idaho National Laboratory, Martin Šilhan from the Rez Research Centre and others.

The speakers will talk in particular about the construction and safe operation of new nuclear power plants for electricity or heat production, including hydrogen production, using the best available technologies. The EU wants to increase its commitment to hydrogen and can use nuclear energy to produce it. However, this is not yet mentioned in the EU hydrogen strategy and the concept of "low carbon hydrogen" does not provide a suitable framework for new investments without a fixed target.
