Graduates
Faculty graduates assume positions of informed authority in their field, both in research and in many commercial companies as well as of academics at prestigious foreign universities. Some of the most distinguished Faculty graduates are, for example:
Professor Ing. Helena Jelínková, DrSc. – leading internationally acclaimed expert in laser technology, responsible also for the design and construction of the laser ranging station in Cairo, determining the Earth’s gravity by means of a geostationary satellite and a laser rangefinder. At the Faculty, she lectures on laser technology and supervises many PhD students.
Professor Ing. Igor Jex, DrSc. – current Dean of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, holder of the 2012 Siemens Award - Werner von Siemens Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution to quantum physics.
Ing. Dana Drábová, Ph.D., dr. h. c. mult. – chairwoman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety, one of the most senior women of Nuclear Physics in the Czech Republic. She was a member of the Pačes Committee outlining the future development of power engineering policy in the Czech Republic. In 2014, she was awarded a Medal of Merit (1st grade) by the President of the Czech Republic.
Ing. Jiří Gavor – owner of ENA Ltd. Energy Analyses company performing energy audits for Czech clients and offering consultancy to energy industry in the Czech Republic and abroad. He graduated from the Department of Dosimetry and Application of Ionizing Radiation.
Ing. Václav Potoček, Ph.D. – a young holder (at the age of 28) of the Prize of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic, awarded for his scientific achievements. Currently, he is a member of the staff of the University of Glasgow. In 2014, his doctoral thesis obtained the Siemens Prize.
Professor Ing. Pavel Hobza, DrSc., FRSC, dr. h. c., a Czech chemist, a Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering graduate. He is a Distinguished Chair at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences, and Professor of Physical Chemistry at Charles University in Prague and Palacký University in Olomouc. He can boast the highest number of citations of all scientists in the Czech Republic.
Professor Ing Pavel Matoušek, CSc., FRSC, graduated from the Department of Physical Electronics. Currently, he is a Senior Fellow of the Science and Technology Council (STFC), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. He is an Honorary Professor at the University College London, and founder and director of the Cobalt Light Systems Ltd. According to the Web of Science (WOS), he authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles and can boast over 6600 citations.
