Course characteristics

The bachelor's degree course in Diagnostics of Materials is oriented mainly towards the study of the behaviour of objects and their systems in terms of mechanical and structural properties of materials during the process of failure, of products' lifetimes, and of new technologies. The course is multi-disciplinary and provides basic elements of classical and modern physics, mathematics, and informatics. It trains student to have the technical competency to use methods derived from physics in natural sciences and in engineering practice, often grounding this in modern computer technologies. Physics-based courses cover mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, thermodynamics, theoretical physics, and experimental physics including physics practicals. Mathematical science courses cover mathematical analysis, algebra, numerical methods, mathematical physics equations, and mathematical statistics. Informatics courses place emphasis on basic computer skills, programming, and internet skills.

Graduate's profile

Knowledge: The graduates will have gained a knowledge of basic IT, mathematical, and physical disciplines, and then, according to their specialised orientation, an insight into materials engineering and applied mechanics. Successful graduates can immediately apply for admission to a master´s course in the same or related field.

Skills: The graduates are skilled in using engineering methods to solve problems in practice as well as in various physical procedures often supported by modern technology.

Competency: Professional analytical working skills, a systematic approach to addressing problems, the knowledge gained and the high competency in computer technologies make the graduates highly competitive candidates for positions in industry and the private sector. They are ready to accept positions in laboratories and testing departments, in product certification and metrology offices, in conventional and nuclear power plants, and in aviation and car industries.
